Intersectoral and Community-based measures for the Elimination of the Domestic Violence in Georgia: Joint Efforts on the Implementation of the Anti-violence Legislation

CSS is participating in the project “Intersectoral and Community-based measures for the Elimination of the Domestic Violence in Georgia: Joint Efforts on the Implementation of the Anti-violence Legislation” funded by UN Trust Fund as one of the partner organizations. The whole project seeks to influence at institutional and community level and support successful implementation of the Law “On Domestic Violence” and related subordinated acts and National Action Plan on Gender equality, which is under the risk in the rural areas and in depressed regions of Georgia, including those with compact settlements of ethnic minorities.

Project is focused on combating of the following types of violence: Domestic Violence, sexual Violence, Harmful traditional practices of exploitations, oppression and confining of women’s freedom in the families, abduction for purposes of marriage.

CSS is involved in the initial stage of the project, which implies implementation of training and university education for social workers. University course mainly address issues and topics on “Domestic Violence” and focuses on different aspects of Gender equality and domestic violence as well as on the development of social workers’ skills for implementation of interviews. University course consists of 30 contact hours. It is run by University professors as well as by guest speakers – experts of the field from different Non-governmental organizations that are working on respective issues. The course consists of two major stages. During each one 25 social workers will be trained. The first stage was implemented in September 2008. The second one will be carried out in October 2008.
