Graduate Program: Gender Studies

Graduation Requirements: 120 Credits (ECTS) acquiring course work (75 ECTS), research seminars and professional development workshops (25 ECTS), internship (5 ECTS), masters' thesis (25 ECTS)
Program Overview
Graduate Program in Gender Studies is the first and the only Masters Program in the South Caucasus. An interdisciplinary curriculum gives students possibilities to study courses in gender/feminist theory, international law, social and political sciences. On the basis of interdisciplinary approaches the program aims at
- teaching gender as the social, cultural, political and economic phenomenon,
- development of research and analytic capacities of students that enables them to study and examine academic, as well as applied problems in gender studies,
- preparing the generation of researchers in gender studies.
Graduate Program in Gender is a four-semester program granting students with MSocSc degree in Gender. Duration of each semester is fifteen weeks and starts in October (Fall Semester) and February (Spring Semester). The first three semesters students are required to accumulate 90 ECTS in coursework and internship. The fourth semester is dedicated to Master thesis writing. The thesis done under a close guidance of the appointed supervisor should represent the student's own original research (30 ECTS).
Gender program curriculum includes courses and research seminars and workshops for professional development. The courses are Basics of Feminist Theory; Gender: Social and Cultural Construct, Historical Aspects of Women's Rights; Agency, Subjectivity and Social Change; Policy Analysis Gender and Politics (research seminar), and Advanced Course in Feminist philosophy; Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods (Gender specific) The special seminars include Academic Writing;; Presentation Skills, Teamwork and Leadership Skills development, Project Writing, Culture of Debate.
Graduates completing their degree with the Gender Program will be able to
- carry out research in gender and gender related issues in a frame of social science,
- develop policy recommendations related to gender-based challenges,
- be employed (as gender policy-makers, researchers or generally, professionals) by various international and local governmental or non-governmental structures.
